Milan Sightseeing
Discover Milan’s many sights on a tour of the city. The splendid Duomo Cathedral is probably Milan’s most iconic sights and the Piazza in front is classed as the heart of Milan. What’s more, the walk up the many steps to the roof is definitely worth the while as you are afforded unrivalled views of the city and the beautiful cathedral and Piazza. Leonardo da Vinci’s ‘Last Supper’, a 15th-century mural and one of the world’s most famous paintings, can be found in the refectory of the Convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie, whereas the Castello Sforzesco was the home of Milan’s Renaissance rulers. Today, it houses a collection of museums and Michelangelo’s last piece of artwork.
Milan’s Roman past can also be seen with many remains and ruins around the town. And for opera fans, La Scala, dating from the 1780s, is one of the world’s best known Opera Houses and played host to Italy’s great composers like Puccini, Verdi and opera singers including Pavarotti. What’s more, Milano Centrale station’s stunning architecture tells of Milan’s importance in the history of Italy and Europe.
Fashion and flair - Tour the designer fashion houses!
Think of Milan and think of fashion. Home to Italy’s most renowned clothes houses, the designer names abound – Gucci, Dolce and Gabanna, Versace, Valentino to name but a few. The outstanding glass-domed Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, opposite the Duomo, is Milan’s imposing cathedral to fashion. Equally, you cannot leave without a walk down Via Montenapoleone. Filled with leading designer shops and expensive dresses, you’d best take your credit cards!
Dinner on an Island on Lake Maggiore - Dine on the Borromean Islands
Nestled in the middle of the spectacular Lake Maggiore are the Borromean Islands. Excellent for visiting during the daytime, with Isola Madre and its Borromeo Palace, or Isola Bella, perhaps the jewel in the crown, with its splendid Baroque Palace with majestic terraced gardens.
As an extra special desination for an evening meal, why not take a private boat across the lake to Isola Dei Pescatori, a romantic ancient fisherman’s island village is home to many restaurants and cafés. Here, enjoy a dinner on the banks of the lake as the sun sets in a fabulous location, before sailng back to your hotel.
