Discover Valencia
Valencia is a fascinating city to discover! Perhaps start with a drive up to the outlook around the old Turia River, where you can see both old and modern bridges like Peineta de Santiago Calatrava, a great spot to take photos.
Afterwards, visit the most important buildings in Valencia including the Cathedral, Basilica of Our Lady of the Forsaken, Virgin Square, Palace of the Marquis of Dos Aguas, Round Square, lonja -merchants warehouse or ancient silk exchange, the Central Market and the façade of the Church of Saint John. Why not also visit the Museum Fallero which commemorates the Fallas celebrations held each year in March, where huge effigies are burned in the streets of the city.
Paella Cooking Lesson
Valencia is the home of Paella, so what better place to learn how to cook it! The most famous rice dish in the world, there are nonetheless many variations to try. Learn how to make your own paella before enjoying in it a convivial lunch. Paella aficionados state that the dish must include both rabbit and chicken, but snails are also added to the mix, with white and green beans and a generous dash of saffron completing this wonderful meal.
Albufera National Park
Perhaps take an excursion out of the city to discover the Albufera Natural Park. Located 11 kilometres south of the city, set between rice paddies and the sea, closed off by the geological embrace of the mouths of the Turia and Júcar Rivers, the Park is a paradise for migratory birds and a recreational area for the city and its surrounding municipalities. You can take a boat trip to get up close to the wildlife which teems around this beautiful area.
City of the Arts and Science
No visit to Valencia is complete without exploring the iconic City of the Arts and Science. An avant-garde work by one of the city’s most famous sons, local architect Santiago Calatrava. Several of its buildings have become symbolic in the city and it is a unique complex devoted to the arts and science and is a place of learning and fun. It is situated at the end of the former riverbed of the River Turia, and the six buildings offer a variety of experiences from an opera house to the largest marine centre in Europe.
For anyone with an interest in architecture, a special architectural guided tour is not to be missed. Focusing on the exteriors, you will visit areas generally closed to the public and learn about the work of two magnificent architects: Santiago Calatrava and Félix Candela. You can also enjoy the spectacular panoramic views available from the buildings.
Oceanographic (City of the Arts and Science)
Oceanographic is Europe’s largest aquarium, with seven different marine environments. It boasts almost 45,000 specimens of 500 different species, including dolphins, belugas, walruses, sea lions, seals, penguins and sharks. Don’t miss the exhibition taking place daily in the dolphinarium. It is a unique location for meetings, special events and unique meals.
